Round table on the problems of assessing the quality of scientific and educational translation
On September 27, 2024, a round table was held at the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities and Language Disciplines of Turan-Astana University, organized within the framework of the scientific project of the Kazakh Pedagogical University named after Abai (KazNPU) on grant funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MNE RK). The theme of the event was "Assessment of the quality of translation: scientific and educational sphere". The purpose of the round table was to discuss the problems and methods of assessing the quality of translation in both academic and educational environments. The round table was attended by teachers of the department, including the head A.B. Donbayeva, as well as A.E. Zarkeshova, M.A. Idrisova, S.S. Sagidullina, A.E. Tolkimbekova, A.B. Abildina and G.A. Khaselova, bachelor students and master’s students.
Presentations were made by the project manager, Doctor of Philology, Professor A.K. Zhumabekova and a participant in the project, Master A.Z. Mukhitov. In her speech, Professor Zhumabekova focused on the differences between assessing the quality of a translator's competence and evaluating the quality of a completed translation. This issue turned out to be especially relevant for the participants of the round table, as it affects important aspects in the training of specialists in the field of translation. Students of the specialty "Translation studies" actively joined the discussion, asking the speakers questions confirming the relevance of the stated topics for preparation.
In addition, the participants of the scientific project attended practical classes on simultaneous translation, where they discussed issues of assessing the quality of this type of translation. During the training, many aspects were taken into account, such as accuracy, pace, adaptation to synchronous transmission conditions and reaction to changes in the initial state.
The round table has become an important platform for the exchange of views between teachers and students, contributing to the development of scientific discussion and a constant methodology for assessing the quality of translation in both scientific and educational environments.
