Additional Educational Programme (Minor Programmes)

TAU is committed to creating opportunities for students to develop their potential, expand their professional competencies and build an individual learning pathway.

A Minor programme is an additional educational programme that enables students to gain knowledge and practical skills in a field that complements their primary educational programme (Major).
By choosing a Minor, students can broaden their professional interests, explore new tools and approaches, develop interdisciplinary competencies and enhance their competitiveness in the labour market.
Objectives of Minor Programmes
The main objectives of Minor programmes are to:
•    Expand students’ educational opportunities;
•    Develop additional professional competencies;
•    Strengthen digital, analytical, managerial and communication skills;
•    Support individual learning and career pathways;
•    Improve graduates’ ability to adapt to the changing demands of the labour market.

Benefits of Minor Programmes
•    Freedom of choice: Explore areas of interest beyond your primary field of study.
•    Practical learning: Gain knowledge and skills that can be applied in professional settings.
•    Interdisciplinary learning: Combine competencies from different fields.
•    Career opportunities: Broaden professional prospects and employment opportunities.
•    Personal development: Build a distinctive profile of knowledge and competencies.

How to Choose and Complete a Minor
Students are encouraged to follow these steps when selecting a Minor programme:
1.    Review the catalogue of available Minor programmes.
2.    Explore course content, programme requirements and expected learning outcomes.
3.    Choose a field that aligns with your professional interests and career goals.
4.    Submit an application within the designated period with the assistance of your academic advisor during Orientation Week.
5.    Complete the courses included in the curriculum and fulfil the programme requirements.

Who Can Choose a Minor?
Eligibility depends on university regulations, the student’s academic background and the requirements of the selected programme.

Can I Choose a Minor Unrelated to My Major?
Yes. This depends on the Minor programmes available in the catalogue. Where permitted, students may choose an interdisciplinary field or a programme from a different area of study to complement their Major.
How Long Does It Take to Complete a Minor?
To complete a Minor programme, students are generally expected to earn at least 12 Kazakhstani credits in the additional educational programme during their studies at the university, usually in their second or third year.
Minor courses are incorporated into the curriculum of the student’s primary educational programme. The curriculum includes the Business Communication course (3 credits) within the required component of the Basic Disciplines cycle, along with 9 credits of elective courses.
These credits count towards the total number of academic credits required to obtain the degree or qualification associated with the student’s Major.

How Do I Register for a Minor?
To register for a Minor programme:
•    Review the catalogue of available programmes;
•    Confirm the registration deadlines;
•    Submit an application in accordance with university procedures.

Will My Minor Appear in My Educational Documents?
Students who complete the required Minor courses and credits, and successfully finish their primary educational programme, will receive:
•    The prescribed diploma supplement for their Bachelor’s degree in the primary educational programme;
•    A transcript for the additional educational programme;
•    A separate certificate, upon request.
