Turan-Astana University has established the "Transnational Taxation and Business Protection" Research Laboratory. This marks a unique milestone for Kazakhstan's academic and business landscape, as a comprehensive applied center is launched within a higher education institution to directly influence the country's investment climate and ensure the legal security of foreign economic activities. The new platform will bridge advanced scientific research, higher education, and comprehensive expert support in international tax law, foreign economic operations, and the protection of entrepreneurs' rights.
The launch of the laboratory within the TAU-InnoHub entrepreneurial ecosystem is a timely and strategic response to the large-scale modernization of the tax system in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the context of refining national tax legislation and implementing new fiscal standards, modern businesses require transparent rules of the game, while the state needs scientifically grounded approaches to regulation. The laboratory's activities will focus on applied research into international tax treaties, comparative analysis of various jurisdictions, transnational risk mitigation, and developing mechanisms to protect businesses in tax disputes. This will establish a robust expertise hub for companies operating in international markets and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a reliable business hub in Central Asia.
Professor Michael Preisser, a leading European expert who was instrumental in founding the European Institute of Tax Law, directly participated in establishing the laboratory. Bringing extensive experience from the German financial administration, international legal consulting, and academia, Professor Preisser plans to take an active role in the laboratory’s operational activities, ensuring the integration of global best practices and fostering international scientific cooperation.
The new platform is designed to become an effective link between the university's research potential, government agencies, and the real sector of the economy. The laboratory’s partners, including foreign economic entities, consulting firms, and relevant authorities, will gain access to continuous expert-analytical support and joint applied projects. Concurrently, the laboratory addresses the critical task of training a new generation of professionals to drive the development of the national economy. Students, undergraduates, and PhD candidates at Turan-Astana University will be engaged in the real-world analysis of judicial practice and tax law auditing.
This practice-oriented approach will deliver highly sought-after specialists in international tax law, corporate compliance, and legal business protection into the labor market. Our laboratory is open to cooperation with domestic and international organizations dedicated to building a transparent, secure, and sustainable economic future.
