TAU – ExamAI Agent

Intelligent Agent TAU – ExamAI Agent

Project Description

TAU – ExamAI Agent is an AI-based system developed by Turan-Astana University for the automatic assessment of students’ exam responses. The project aims to enhance transparency, fairness, and trust in grading while providing the administration and the Quality Assurance Center with improved control mechanisms.

Key Objectives

  • Automated evaluation of exam answers based on predefined criteria or model answers;

  • Comparison between AI-generated scores and those given by instructors;

  • Detection of anomalies and significant grading discrepancies;

  • Minimization of human error and bias in assessment;

  • Increased confidence from students and external accreditation bodies.

Functional Capabilities

  • Retrieval of student responses from the AIS Platonus system;

  • AI-driven assessment of answers according to preset standards;

  • Score comparison and anomaly detection;

  • Visualization of results and analytics via a web interface for administrators and the QA Center;

  • Generation of reports on detected anomalies.

Expected Results & KPIs

  • Reduction of administrative oversight and rechecking efforts by 30–40%;

  • Savings of up to 10–15% of the examination quality assurance budget;

  • ≥80% score match rate between AI and instructors;

  • Rate of anomaly detection and confirmation upon manual review;

  • Improved satisfaction of QA and administrative staff (based on internal surveys).

How It Works

The system retrieves exam responses from AIS Platonus, automatically evaluates them using AI, and compares the results with instructor grades. If a significant discrepancy is found, it is flagged as an anomaly and logged for review. All data is accessible via an internal web interface for authorized staff.

Required Data

  • Text-based exam responses from students;

  • Grades provided by instructors;

  • Exam metadata: student name, subject, date, instructor, exam ticket number.

Additional Notes

  • The system is currently under development and can be gradually integrated with other modules of AIS Platonus;

  • The AI agent does not replace instructors, but serves as a supplementary tool for improving transparency and quality control in the assessment process.
