Fraud in the Era of AI: Digital Threats Discussed at «Turan-Astana» University
Yesterday, as part of the annual "Science Week" at "Turan-Astana" University, a training seminar was held on the topic: "Fraud in the Era of Artificial Intelligence." The event was attended by 3rd-year students of the "Jurisprudence" educational program.
The seminar was conducted as part of the implementation of the national "Law and Order" concept and in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The primary objective of the meeting was to strengthen legal literacy and develop digital hygiene among future lawyers.
The Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, Candidate of Legal Sciences S.Zh. Smoilov, delivered the opening remarks. He emphasized that the rapid development of AI creates not only opportunities but also significant new risks. According to the Vice-Rector, a modern lawyer must possess the skills to provide rapid legal assessments of digital threats to effectively protect the interests of citizens.
The main session was led by Associate Professor, Candidate of Legal Sciences U.S. Serimov. He presented a profound analysis of offenses committed using Deepfake technologies and AI algorithms. The expert focused specifically on:
mechanisms for preventing cyber-fraud;
legal methods for protecting personal data;
action algorithms when encountering high-tech threats.
The event was held in an interactive format. Students analyzed real-world cases, learned to recognize manipulations in the digital environment, and completed practical assignments on the classification of IT crimes.
The seminar’s outcomes reaffirmed that developing critical thinking and adapting to the challenges of digitalization are the foundations of training next-generation professionals. The knowledge gained will support future specialists not only in their studies but also in their professional careers as they work to strengthen the principles of legality in modern society.
