General information about the department, including faculty with degrees
The department is focused on developing innovative thinking, creativity, and a practice-oriented approach to teaching. Special attention is given to the development of professional translation skills, analytical thinking, and intercultural communication.
The professional foundation of the department is formed by an expert community that brings together Doctors of Science, Candidates of Science, and Master's degree holders with specialized education. The academic staff possesses extensive teaching experience and strong research expertise in the fields of philology and translation studies.
The department is staffed by highly qualified academic personnel. In particular, the department includes 2 Doctors of Science, Professors, and 3 Candidates of Science, Professors, which ensures a high level of quality in the educational process.
Faculty members conduct systematic research activities, and the results of their work are regularly published in leading national and international scientific journals.
The relevance of the research conducted is confirmed by grant funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2023–2024). Under the supervision of Professor K.M. Abisheva, the project titled “The Study of the Ethnic Conceptosphere of the People and Thinkers of the Past Based on Cognitive-Ethical Linguosynergetics — a New Direction in Humanities” is being implemented.
The department is headed by Ainur Beketovna Donbayeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department. She coordinates scientific, academic, and methodological activities, supervises research conducted by faculty members and students, and actively participates in research projects and international conferences.
Special attention is given to students’ practical training. Students undertake industrial and translation internships at professional organizations such as the Association of Translators of Kazakhstan, Gala Global Group, and Til-Qazyna, where they gain valuable professional experience, improve their written and oral translation skills, and become familiar with modern requirements of the translation industry.
Educational programs
The department provides training for specialists in the fields of philology, translation studies, and language communication. Training is carried out at the bachelor's level in the educational programs “Translation Studies” and “Philology,” as well as at the master's level in the program “Kazakh Language and Literature.”
The educational process is conducted in Kazakh, Russian, and English using modern educational technologies and practice-oriented teaching methods. To ensure a high level of professional training, a specially equipped classroom for simultaneous and consecutive interpreting (translation laboratory) is available. In addition, guest lectures delivered by foreign professors and industry practitioners are regularly organized as part of the educational process.
